Index Finger - The Mirror
This is the most important digit, as it's the finger of self-reflection. This finger represents the relationship you have with yourself, your self-esteem and your self-consciousness. This finger rules all aspects of the way you see yourself - the personal world, self-advancement, self-esteem and personal vision. Responsibility and integrity are also connected with this digit.
If more than half a centimeter shorter than the ring finger, various research papers have shows an issue with low self esteem and there's a likelihood of bouts of depression. In these cases, there's an aversion to self-analysis and a lack of early responsibility and authority in childhood. It's common in children of large families where one had to play up to get attention and in any situation where self-value and responsibility wasn't reinforced (usually a sign of parental neglect or of being ‘spoilt', or from not being given a sense of individuality). A short index is usually more pronounced on the passive hand and indicates the development of greater self-worth in maturity.
If the index digit is only so much as a millimetre longer than the ring finger, it's considered long. Long mirror fingered folk tend to be latent or overt control-freaks. They indulge in much self-reflection and are intensely self-aware. They also possess a natural sense of authority and are idealistic perfectionists..
