Teachers

Our practice maintains the view that each individual must walk their own chosen path and indeed has a responsibility to do so without blindly following the dictates of others nor preaching the "right way" to others. For this reason the teacher is expected never to place themselves above their students and to work alongside them as a fellow sufferer or struggler. All teachers are students and all students are teachers by the example they set others.

I started yoga as a wee lad way back in 1985, initially as a way of keeping out of the pub. I started teaching it around 1991. I love the beautiful honesty of yoga - the way it reflects the mental and emotional processes. Through regular practice you become sensitive to the subtle eddies in the processes of the body mind: the anxiety you didn't think you had, the flu trying to get a grip on your system, the glass of wine you drank yesterday. The body and mind are one process, one is an expression of the other. Yoga is truly the dance of the soul.

I began training in gymnastics at the age of 7 and have been involved in a variety of sports ever since, including dance, swimming and Capoeira training in glorious sun-kissed Brazil.

When I began Dynamic Yoga training regularly in 2004, I quickly realised it was the missing link between physical and emotional levels of experience. It was the only thing that managed to still my whirring mind and as the sessions went on, it eased the tension in my muscles and grounded me in a way no other physical activity had. During a Yoga class, I would feel the anxiety fade away as I breathed, moved and released into a posture. I was able to gain a sense of perspective and was relieved from the entrapment of my busy mind. Soon after, I experienced a sense of being untangled and unrestricted, free to be well and to be true to the emotions coursing through my body.

I qualified as an instructor to incorporate Yoga principals into my everyday living; things such as diet and nutrition, meditation and energy awareness. Yoga is central to my way of life now. Through it I continually learn more about myself and liberate myself from any self-inflicted barriers. Through Yoga I grow and find more zest and passion within my life!

I have been involved in yoga for over 6 years and qualified as a Dynamic Yoga teacher last year. I recently moved back into Norwich after spending a year living and working in a Buddhist retreat centre and have been meditating regularly for about 3 years.

I find that yoga and meditation are mutually beneficial. The effects on my yoga practice are far more noticeable as the mind calms and relaxes through meditation so does my experience in the postures. The yoga in turn helps keep my body healthy and supple which has the same effect on the mind when it comes to meditation. I am also keenly interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine and I have just started training in Shiatsu.
